The Capital Medical Science Innovation Center, with the help of the resources of Capital Medical University, will soon carry out the “Application-Assessment” system of enrollment for the supplementary batch of PhD candidates for the year 2024. The online registration process for this enrollment officially started at 2:00 PM on May 6, 2024. Interested applicants must complete their registration by 2:00 PM on May 14, and pay the relevant fees within the following two days, i.e., before 2:00 PM on May 16.
The Innovation Center welcomes all graduate candidates to consult the enrollment brochure through the official website and to obtain more relevant information.
Looking back to September 2023, the Innovation Center welcomed its first cohort of PhD students. These students chose the Innovation Center because it is home to a top-notch team of domestic mentors, advanced experimental equipment, and innovative systems. The excellent conditions and positive research atmosphere here enable mentors to consider problems from the students’ perspective and provide challenging and targeted scientific research guidance.
In the laboratory, students are encouraged to cultivate scientific thinking for problem-solving and to bridge the gap with clinical research. Under the guidance of their mentors, they can engage in research work centered around clinical issues. Students evaluate that their mentors provide excellent guidance and enlightenment on scientific thinking, as well as opportunities for profound and egalitarian exchanges.
Here, graduate students not only have high-standard living allowances and research conditions but also enjoy strong support in all aspects. The mentors spare no effort in providing course guidance, and the weekly Journal Club activities also leave a deep impression on the students. In such a friendly laboratory environment, students can participate in a variety of academic activities, including various academic forums and international youth forums.
Regarding academic forums, past events have included deep exchanges with researchers from well-known domestic and international institutions such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, as well as scholars from internationally renowned research institutions such as the US NIH, Mayo Clinic, Stowers Institute. Through such platforms, students have the opportunity to listen to and learn from the valuable experiences and cutting-edge knowledge of distinguished scholars from the US National Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and other leaders in the scientific community.
Domestic and international experts discuss the forefront of cancer treatment: At the recently held 2024 CIMR International Cancer Forum, 17 leading figures gathered to bring a series of exciting reports on the molecular mechanisms of tumors, disease progression, and treatment methods, and shared a wealth of breakthrough results still at the research stage.
Imagine there are thousands of reasons to join a dynamic and broad-visioned Innovation Center, and you will surely find your 1001st reason. The Innovation Center is not just a traditional academic hall, but also a breeding ground for endless possibilities and future development. The years of one’s youth are precious, but here, you can turn them into valuable opportunities for exploring the unknown, whether it’s discovering new disease mechanisms or initiating a treatment revolution targeting new points; whether it’s developing a novel drug or exploring an innovative treatment method; every scientific breakthrough you make signifies aid in the recovery of a vast number of patients, which is an extraordinarily noble and great endeavor!
The Innovation Center is located in the medically-resource-rich Beijing area, collaborating with Capital Medical University and its 20 renowned affiliated hospitals to jointly advance the combination of basic medical research and translational studies. The center brings together a range of experts in various fields, such as Merlin, Li Guomin, Li Chuanyuan, and Yuval Rinkevich, to cooperate and meet the challenge of transforming scientific research into clinical application. By the end of 2024, 30 labs are expected to join and work in a new model of multidisciplinary integration, including fields like oncology, cell biology, genetics, and immunology.
At the Innovation Center, we advocate for free exploration, encourage thinking, and critical analysis. A flexible mentor-rotation system is employed where each student has the opportunity to rotate through at least 3 different labs for a minimum of two months each, getting comprehensive exposure to multiple disciplinary frontiers, and making a mutual selection for a final mentor at the end of rotations. Students are able to closely engage with rich clinical resources, start interdisciplinary collaborations, and actively participate in a broader scientific exploration.
Joining hands with top scientists, focusing on the future: The Innovation Center aims to assemble an international team of outstanding professors and promising young scientists from around the world through international recruitment over the next 5 years, forming a research team comprised of 100 world-class laboratories and more than 2000 researchers. Top-level basic medical and translational research will be conducted, as well as the development of technological platforms and talent cultivation, including the construction of 150,000 square meters of research space and 10 advanced technological platforms to facilitate basic and translational research, as well as clinical trials and industrialization.
To cultivate first-class new medical research talent, we work closely with top universities and medical institutions to launch several high-standard cooperative graduate, postdoctoral, physician-scientist programs, and talent support plans. These well-designed, targeted programs and plans aim to support and promote the growth and development of future physician-scientists.
We look forward to your participation, as we explore and push forward the new frontiers of medical scientific research together.
